Max Chilton celebrated his 16th birthday today with the best present he could've wished for, his International C race licence that will allow him to compete in the 2007 Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series.
Tomorrow, at 16 years and 1 day old, the Surrey based driver will become the youngest driver to ever start a British F3 race and is very level headed about the challenge he faces in the world's most competitive Formula 3 championship.
"It has been tough work, it has taken us 4 months to receive my licence so I can race," said a relieved Max Chilton who was forced to miss the opening two races at Oulton Park due to his age. "The whole year is going to be a learning session and I've got to treat qualifying and the race as a testing session. Because it is such a big step from T Cars to single seaters I'm just hoping to finish every race and enjoy it."
Max Chilton will get his first run in anger in his Arena Motorsport Dallara F307 Mercedes race car in qualifying at 11:20 today. He will be racing in the Invitation Class because he needs to have an International B race licence to be eligible to compete in the Championship Class, something he hopes to do later in the season.
