Ultimate Motorsport and Mygale Score First F3 Points

TEAM NEWS:  Ultimate Motorsport secured their first ever points in the Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series with two thrilling top-ten finishes in the second round of the season at Donington Park.

The team, which made its motorsport debut just two weeks ago at Oulton Park, claimed sixth place thanks to a strong drive from Argentine driver Esteban Guerrieri in the opening race of the day, winning French manufacturer Mygale their first ever F3 points.  Ireland's Michael Devaney then followed up with a seventh place in the second race and team owner Barry Walsh said: "This is what makes it all worthwhile. It is amazing! We are two rounds into the season and to have already scored points is just excellent.  "The team really have done a fantastic job. Esteban's drive was brilliant. We couldn't have asked for more – especially as he had a problem with his car which lost him some of his pace later in the race.  "Then to have Michael score points in race two, with another fantastic start and a strong drive under pressure, was superb. We will go away from Donington with big smiles on our faces – and we still have more development plans so there is much more to come."

In race one Guerrieri made a sensational start to climb from 13th to eighth by the end of the first lap then passed Michael Breen and Maro Engel, winner of the season's opening race, to move up to sixth before withstanding some intense pressure in the run to the finish.  Devaney also made a strong start from 14th on the grid but lost places when he spun at the first corner. After climbing back up he collided with Alastair Jackson's car just before the re-start and was forced to pit for a new nosecone but was still able to complete the race.

The second race saw an exciting start thanks to some rain on the track and Devaney took advantage to climb up to ninth, then moved up the field to finish seventh at the end. Guerrieri spun at the start but showed good pace running on his own.  Guerrieri said: "It was excellent to get the first points for the team, and we hope they will be the first of many. I had a good start, although not as good as it might have been because I went on the grass, but I made up some places and got a good exit from turn one.  "I made it past the outside of another two cars through McLeans, then passed Breen at the start of the second lap and next Engel and I was pretty comfortable, keeping pace with the guys in front. "With eight laps to go I had a problem with the upright and the car became very difficult to drive, so there was lots of pressure and it was great to see the guys jumping up and down on the wall at the end!"

Devaney said: "A double points finish - we have gotta be happy with that! We knew we had the pace for the second race. It was a bit slippy and everyone was braking early but we had really good traction, so I made up quite a few places.  "I then just had to withstand the pressure and bring it home. The car also had good pace in the first race but I spun when one of the Carlin cars turned in on me in the first corner and dropped down. "The safety car came out and when it went to pull in the car in front brake tested me. I clipped the back of his car, so I had to pit for a new nosecone and that ruined my race. But we have made fantastic progress and today has been a great day all of us in the team."
