Accidents Force Mansell Brothers Out of Race Weekend
Leo and Greg Mansell will both have to sit out Round 6 of the 2007 Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series due to both brothers being the innocent parties in two separate accidents in the first race of the weekend.
Greg ran into the back of his Fortec teammate Sebastian Hohenthal after the Swedish driver spun at the penultimate corner while battling with Sam Bird. The two Fortec Dallara's were locked together and when the car was recovered it was found to have extensive damage to the tub and was beyond repair.
Leo's accident was more serious, with the 21-year-old driver being examined for concussion following his accident with 'Frankie' Cheng and Francesco Castellacci. Cheng speared across the track when he braked late for the corner and lost control of his Dallara, which slewed across into the path of Mansell and Castellacci. Leo was later released by the medics is unable to take any further part in the weekend in Bucharest.
While Greg Mansell was OK to drive, his car was too badly damaged and while Leo's car was repaired by the team, and they also had a spare car at the circuit, Formula 3 rules do not allow a driver to use another car during a race weekend.
The Mansell family returned to the UK and the brothers will be back on track in two weeks time at Snetterton.
