DRIVER NEWS: Double Podium for Bahrain's Hamad Al Fardan
DRIVER NEWS: Hamad Al Fardan secured two podium finishes this weekend with two fantastic drives in rounds 7 & 8 of the British F3 International Series.
Conditions at the Norfolk track could not have been more different from Bucharest two weeks ago; soaring temperatures all weekend meant it was difficult track conditions for the F3 drivers. Despite the heat Al Fardan rose to the occasion and put his Performance Racing Dallara-Mugen Honda 3rd on the gird for both races.
Electric problems with the #38 car in race one meant Al Fardan's drive to his second podium finish in the championship was even more deserving. Unable to fix the problem in such short notice meant the team had to send Al Fardan out with no information on his dash. Not only did Al Fardan keep his cool but he made up one place on track passing Jackson with 10 laps remaining in the race. T-Sport driver Sergio Perez went on to win the race.
The team was unable to fix the electrical problems which plagued Al Fardan in race one but this did not stop the Bahraini driver taking his third podium of the championship. An incident packed race two saw the GFH backed driver start third on the grid. But a mistake on turn one left him back down the field in 9th place, a long way behind his rivals, and fighting understeer for the remainder of the race. Fortunately for Hamad a safety car period mid way through the race meant with a few brilliant overtaking maneuvers he ended up in 3rd place. Al Fardan's team mate Frankie Cheng took second place and Victor Jensen went on to score his first victory of the season.
Hamad Al Fardan - Performance Racing Driver "I've had a really good weekend although the first race was tough because I was constantly worried about the electrical problems I had. I kept missing gears on the straight but I did the best I could and managed to get my second podium.
"In race two I went off on turn one which meant I was really far behind the other drivers, I pushed hard but was struggling from understeer because of the damage. The safety car helped me catch up and I managed to pass Salman and then Perez and Jackson together out of turn two.
"I'm really happy with this weekend, two podiums is fantastic for me. I want to thank my sponsor GFH and the team for doing such a fantastic job. I'm really looking forward to Monza now."
Bobby Issazadhe - Performance Racing Team Manager "Hamad had two magnificent races this weekend. And especially race two when he was under so much pressure, many drivers would look in their mirrors and make mistakes but Hamad kept his head down and put in even faster times."
The British F3 International Series will be back on track at Monza on June 23 - 24 for rounds 9 & 10 of the championship.
