TEAM NEWS: Ultimate Expecting More Points after Monza Qualifying
TEAM NEWS: Ultimate Motorsport are expecting more points finishes in tomorrow's Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series races despite braking issues at the high-speed Monza circuit in Italy.
The team, who face back-to-back races with their EuroSeries debut at Magny-Cours following this weekend's Italian outing, showed good progress with car set-up but spent much of the weekend chasing a continuing brake issue.
Argentine Esteban Guerrieri finished first qualifying just outside the top ten and secured 13th spot on the grid in the second session while team-mate Michael Devaney will start the two races from 18th and 15th places.
Team Manager Jonny Ostrowski said: "We have had a frustrating time so far. The brake issue that we have suffered since the start of the season has magnified it self here in Monza and the solution to it continues to remain elusive.
"We have a severe knock-off problem and without that sorted the drivers cannot have full confidence in the car so that fact is reflected by the times we achieved in qualifying today.
"Michael suffered with a lack of running at the beginning of free practice on Friday but we have still achieved our 'usual' grid positions which will certainly give us the chance to chase some more points in tomorrow's two races."
The strong sunshine and 30-degree temperatures at the Monza circuit are expected to continue into Sunday and the team are confident their fast-starting Mygale-Mercedes machines can take on the opposition again this weekend.
Guerrieri said: "I already knew the circuit here and I think it is one of the best ones I have raced on. The car set-up is good and it is quite well balanced but do have a problem with brake knock-off.
"We have made some progress on it and although not being able to really have a proper brake pedal is a severe compromise we are not far from the top ten on the grid so to come away from here with some points would be nice."
Devaney said: "It was unfortunate that I did not get enough running on Friday and again it has been a case of playing catch-up. With the starts we usually make I am not in a bad position and I hope to pick my way through into the points."
