TEAM NEWS: Ultimate Score First Double Points Race Finish in Monza
TEAM NEWS: Ultimate Motorsport acheived another milestone in their short history when they secured their first ever double points finish in a British F3 International Series race at Monza.
In the final event before their F3 EuroSeries debut on the F1 bill at Magny-Cours next weekend, Esteban Guerrieri secured sixth and Michael Devaney followed home in eighth to hand the team their best ever result in Sunday's opening race.
Devaney made it a personal double points score with eighth in the second race and the team were satisfied with a strong pace that could have secured even better finishes if they had not been compromised by braking issues in qualifying.
Team manager Jonny Ostrowski said: "This has been a challenging race weekend and we are delighted to have come away with another landmark achieved after both cars finished the same race in the points.
"We were compromised in qualifying by a braking issue but the team worked hard to get on top of this and they did a great job to give Esteban and Mick cars that could do the job around this circuit come race day.
"Both drivers put in great performances with Esteban making some excellent starts and Mick making some great moves to work his way through the pack. To finish the weekend with three points finishes is, again, our best achievement yet.
"We now head to Magny-Cours for our debut race in the F3 EuroSeries at the home track of our chassis manufacturers Mygale. It will be a logistical challenge but we are up for it and looking forward to another strong weekend there."
In race one Guerrieri started from 11th and made a strong start then held his position well while Devaney, who had a tough qualifying, worked his way up from 18th on the grid to eighth with some spectacular overtaking.
In race two Devaney again picked off the cars in front to move from 15th on the grid into eighth place while Guerrieri made a stunning start from 13th on the grid up to P4 but had an excursion and dropped out of the points by the end.
Devaney said: "The first race we had really good speed and overtook quite a few people in the slipstream down the straights, lap by lap. There were a few touches and a bit of wheelbanging but nothing too serious.
"To get from 18th to eighth was pretty good and the second race was also quite good except the engine cover kept being pulled up in the airstream and that caused a lot of drag so it limited me to overtaking in the braking areas.
"Overall the car had lots of speed and the team did well to get to the bottom of the braking issues we had. It is the first time I have scored points in both races of a round so I think we can be pretty happy with that result."
Guerrieri said: "I did a good start in race one and that put me well up the order so I just tried to keep a clean track, take the tow from the cars in front and keep a distance on the ones behind.
"It was great to come home sixth in that race and I had a good start in the second - I think I was up to fourth at one point. But then unfortunately several cars were able to make it past me."
