DRIVER NEWS: Engel Aims to Replicate Podium Places at Brands
DRIVER NEWS: British F3 race winner Maro Engel heads to Brands Hatch this weekend, as the British F3 circuit returns to the UK for rounds 11 and 12 of the 2007 championship. Having put in a dominant performance to take two pole positions, a race win and second place at the last event at Monza, the 21 year- old German is looking strong ahead of this weekend’s races and currently stands third in the drivers’ championship.
The Mercedes backed driver has a good record at the circuit, having qualified and finished second in both of last year’s races. Engel also set a new lap record in race one.
“We had a good weekend at Brands last year; it’s a great track, possibly the best in the UK. I have a lot of confidence in the team; they keep providing us with great cars that are capable of winning races so it’s up to us as drivers to do just that.
“Brands Hatch is a very challenging circuit, but also very rewarding when you get it right. As a driver you go through a lot of sensations around the track, there are a number of very fast corners. Paddock Hill Bend is pretty much unique in terms of the speed you take into the corner and then the drop down hill before climbing up again to Druids. I think it’s probably Britain’s answer to the Nordschleife; it has blind corners, up hill corners, a bit of everything really. I’m very pleased to be going back again and looking forward to replicating my good results from past year.”
Engel will take part in the first of three practice session on Friday at 9.55. Qualifying one will take place at 11.30 on Saturday followed by qualifying two at 14.50. Race one will commence at 11.10 on Sunday with the weekend concluding at 15.55 with race two.
