DRIVER NEWS: Engel still determined ahead of Thruxton BF3 round
DRIVER NEWS: Maro Engel heads to Thruxton this weekend as resolute as ever to catch championship leader Mark Asmer in the British F3 championship. Despite the lead the Estonian has built up this season, 21 year- old Engel is determined to make it hard as possible for the Hitech driver to take the championship.
Engel currently lies second in the championship, having recorded six podium finishes in the season so far, including vicotries at the season opener at Oulton Park and the historic Monza circuit in Italy.
Speaking about the weekend ahead, Engel said, “We left Silverstone with some good results; considering Silverstone is traditionally not a great track for us, two second places were a positive result. The team have provided me with a very good car and together with the fact that Carlin have a good record at Thruxton, I think we are looking strong ahead of the weekend. We are testing our low down force set up at Pembrey this week, which should help us ahead of the race, as Thruxton is a fast circuit which requires a very specific set up.
“Podiums are a realistic aim this weekend, and of course we are still aiming to win races and to keep the championship open for as long as possible. Admittedly Marko has a substantial lead in the championship now, but I won’t give up on the championship until it is mathematically impossible. Even if that does become the case, I race to win, and that won’t change no matter what the championship situation is.”
Engel will take to the track on Friday morning at 10.00 for first practice and again at 15.30. Qualifying for race one will take place at 11.25 followed by qualifying two at 14.45. Racing action will get underway at 11.50 on Sunday, with race two taking place at 15.30.
