DRIVER NEWS: Engel focused ahead of penultimate round
DRIVER NEWS: As the British F3 championship heads to Croft this weekend, Maro Engel remains the only driver in the 21 strong championship class field capable of preventing leader Marko Asmer of taking the 2007 title. Engel will make his racing debut at the North Yorkshire track this weekend, as the circuit makes a return to the F3 calendar after a one year absence.
Last time out at Thruxton, Engel drove two brilliant races, including a stunning drive from 15th on the grid to 3rd and his seventh podium position of the season. Finishing in front of Asmer in both races, the 22 year-old German closed the points gap sufficiently to keep the championship alive for another weekend.
The Mercedes backed driver remains 100 per cent focused ahead of penultimate event of the season, “I haven’t raced at Croft before, as the circuit wasn’t on the F3 calendar last season. However, we completed a good test there earlier this year, so I’m confident that we will have a good race. Croft is quite a fast circuit, but also quite technical and requires a good set up.
“Clearly everyone will be focusing on the championship this weekend, but I will be concentrating on my own race; trying to get the best out of the car and driving on the limit. We’ve consistently shown great pace this year and it would be great to get another race win as the season enters the final stages.”
Track action will commence at 9.30 on Friday, followed by second practice at 13.40. Qualifying for race one will take place on Saturday at 11.40 and qualifying for race two at 14.30. The racing will commence at 12.50 on Sunday with the second race of the day at 16.05.
