TEAM NEWS: End of Season for Performance Racing in Rockingham

Team News: Performance Racing drivers finish 2nd and 3rd in the National Class of the Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series.

Hamad Al Fardan had a great start in Race 1, and led the National Class field in the early stages of the race. Sérgio Perez was close behind, and both came together as the Mexican tried to take the lead from the young Bahraini driver. Al Fardan got back on track and recovered to finish in third place, his 12th podium this season.

Race 2 would be difficult, as a mistake in qualifying meant Hamad would be starting from the back of the grid. Another great start moved him up to 3rd place, but unfortunately he had to retire with engine problems halfway through the race.

Even with a difficult final weekend, Al Fardan’s strong results in the past rounds meant he finished in 3rd place in the National Class standings, a great achievement in his first year racing in British Formula 3.

Frankie Cheng, having already secured 2nd place in the standings was not present, as he was called up to represent China in the opening round of A1GP in Zandvoort.

Ricardo Teixeira had a complicated start to his weekend, as the arrival of a new engineer and mixed weather conditions made it difficult to find the best setup for his Championship Class car. With the track drying during the first qualifying session, the decision to switch to slick tires came a fraction too late, meaning that the Angolan could not get the best out of them before the session ended. He finished with the 23rd fastest time. The second session went a little better, with Ricardo finishing in 20th place.

With nothing to lose in the races, and a much improved setup in his car, Ricardo decided to take some risks. He had two excellent starts making up several places, but unfortunately mistakes made during the first lap pushed him back down the order. He managed to move back up in both races, finishing in 17th and 15th place.

“It was a very tough season for us, but we’re happy with 2nd and 3rd in National Class. Frankie showed great speed in some rounds this year, and it was very good to see Hamad’s progress through the season. Ricardo learned a lot this year, and we are making plans to keep working together in the future”, commented Team Manager Bobby Issazadhe after the weekend.

With the current season coming to an end, the Silverstone based team is now making plans for the upcoming winter months, as well as for 2008. More news from Performance Racing soon!
