DRIVER NEWS: Following a successful four day test in Spain in December, it has been confirmed that 16 year old Max Chilton will drive for Hitech in the 2008 Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series.
Max joins the 2007 Series-winning team alongside Austrian Walter Grubmuller and a yet to be announced third driver. They will all race the new for this season Dallara F308 chassis powered by Mercedes-Benz engines.
Hitech team principal David Hayle was impressed by Max’s performance during the test days which commenced at Jerez just before Christmas;
"I am very excited at having reached an agreement to run Max, it gives us a great opportunity to bring on a very bright young British talent. As yet we haven’t finalised our lead driver but from the short list we are working from we should have an excellent blend of drivers with which to challenge for race wins and another title.” Max is extremely happy at being selected to join the Hitech team and believes it offers him a fantastic opportunity as well;
“Hitech are a proven, successful team. They dominated the Series last year with Marko Asmer, but also have a long history of being competitive. It was great to have Marko there driving on the test days I had in Spain as I got to compare data with the reigning Champion and see where he was finding time. What I’ve already learnt from him and from the team in just four days has shown me that in 2008 I can make a lot of progress. Having team-mates will also be an advantage compared to last year.”
2007 was Max’s first season in F3 and his first in single seaters having graduated from T Cars, the training formula for 14 to 16 year olds. A couple of strong performances at Snetterton and Brands Hatch last season saw him finish just outside the points and showed he is learning quickly.
