DRIVER NEWS: The weekend of 17/18 May saw Jay Bridger racing at Monza in Italy. The weather forecast was diabolical – and it delivered!
Saturday’s qualifying was full of controversy and, with cars sliding off the water logged track, was called off due to the appalling weather conditions. It was eventually decided that the fastest lap would be the qualifying for race 1, second fastest lap qualifying for race 2. This decision left Jay 4th on the grid for the first race, 3rd for the second race.
Jay’s first race was a short one as the car suffered an electrical failure on the 2nd lap. Race 2 started in the wet, but with all competitors on slick tyres. At the first corner Jay was pushed off into the gravel rejoining the race in last place! Fortunately Jay enjoys racing in the wet and was soon overtaking the cars in front of him. After about 4 laps Jay had caught the leader and eventually passed him on lap 9. He then started to pull away from the rest of the field, managing to set the fastest lap of the race in doing so, gaining himself an extra Championship point.
When the chequered flag came out Jay was 6.5 seconds ahead of second placed Hywel Lloyd. English pride was restored with Jay being the only English driver to win over the weekend and to enjoy the sound of his National Anthem!
