DRIVER NEWS: Canadian British F3 driver, Philip Major has scored his first points of the year in the British F3 International Series. The majorspeed.com/Fortec driver put in a brilliant performance in round 5 at the challenging Monza circuit in Italy.
After rain washed out the original qualifying session on Friday, the second session on Saturday morning was no better weather wise. Major didn’t get enough laps in the session to register a top 10 time, but he did know that his car in race trim would be good.
“Qualifying was tough,” Major said. “The weather was awful, and I think I had a top 10 car, but I just didn’t get enough laps to prove it.”
With the confidence of a good Dallara/Mercedes package underneath him, Major started round 5 from 21st on the grid.
“I really like Monza,” Major said after the race. “It is a track that you can pass on, and I was able to move up during the race.”
Major pushed forward, getting quicker as the race wore on. He managed to pass a total of 11 cars to finish in a solid 10th place on the track. That finishing position was elevated to eighth in the final results.
“I think this was a turning point for us,” Major said. “We were able to show the speed we have, and now I am very excited to score my first points of the year.”
