TEAM NEWS: Ultimate to concentrate on 2009 Challenge
TEAM NEWS: Ultimate Motorsport will concentrate on a fresh challenge in 2009, with a switch to Dallara chassis. In order to start testing the new car as soon as possible and stay within the British Formula 3 Championship regulations - which imposes strict limits on testing - the team has no choice but to miss the final round in Donington Park next month and withdraw from the championship, so as to maximise test and development time.
Since the beginning of 2007, Ultimate Motorsport has led the way in racing the Mygale chassis, racking up several podium finishes and a memorable double win for Michael Devaney at Snetterton this year. However, as part of a long-term plan to push the team forwards it will switch to the more widely-used Dallara chassis in 2009.
In order to start the Dallara testing programme as soon as possible, the team has regrettably been forced to pull out of this year's championship with immediate effect – which has a seven-week gap between the penultimate and final rounds.
Ultimate Motorsport Team Principal Barry Walsh said: "This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but our duty is to consider the team's best interests in 2009. We now need to play catch-up with the teams that are a year ahead of us in developing the F308 Dallara, in order to be right on the pace for next season."
"This means that we have no time to spare, and unfortunately we have no choice but to take this course of action in order to maximise test and development time. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Bertrand Decoster and the whole Mygale team, who helped us to achieve two wins and several more podiums, as well as all our competitors on the British Formula 3 series this year. We look forward to racing against them once more next season and coming back better than ever."
