TEAM NEWS: Lars Viljoen Tests for Litespeed at Donington Park

TEAM NEWS: At 140 mph down the straight at Donington, Litespeed F3 was literally causing ‘heads to turn’ during testing on Friday. With its distinctive red and white livery, it was ‘like watching an arrow fly by’, noted one impressed observer.

Despite this being the car’s inaugural outing at Donington, it appeared to have the ideal set up for the 77 year old track, easing through Craner and the Old Hairpin curves.

Taking his seat in Litespeed’s R1 for the first time, Lars Viljoen could easily have been mistaken for Litespeed’s seasoned driver, such was his natural affinity with the car. The 23 year old from Somerset already has quite a following from his days in Formula BMW and British Club F3 and is a popular young driver around the track.

‘Lars has great potential,’ said Litespeed Team Manager Nino Judge. ‘He did a fine job testing, applying a systematic approach and offering mature and useful feedback. If funds become available, Litespeed would be delighted to run him.’

Litespeed has been attracting interest since it arrived in F3 in June this year. With the team’s ‘audacious’ challenge to Dallara and Mygale’s stronghold of the British F3 International Series, all eyes have been on the ‘new team from Norfolk’.

‘We are becoming increasingly competitive and the 2009 series will bear witness to British engineering being firmly back in British F3. 2008 has been a year for us to fine tune the SLC R1, whereas 2009 will see this British team take its rightful place in the championship,’ said Judge.

It’s a bold claim, but one that is likely to keep those eyes glued to the flying arrow in the years to come.  Litespeed F3 will be racing at Donington on 12th October in the last race of the 2008 series.
